In Ukrainian tradition, the New Year is an important time to clean your house & homestead and have them blessed, and to have all doors and thresholds marked with a cross using a natural, wheat paste.
It is also the time of year for singing shchedrivky or New Year's carols. Shchedrivky typically speak of the importance of generosity & bestow wishes of good fortune for all in the New Year. The melody of Carol of the Bells--a tune associated in the US with Christmas--is derived from an old, pre-Christian Ukrainian shchedrivka about a bird called Shchedryk (Generous One) who bestows good fortune on all he visits.
The New Year is also known as Malanka. Malanka is a holiday with roots in pre-Christian traditions that became associated in Christian times with St. Melania and with the New Year's festivities. See the collection of videos below of how Malanka is celebrated in the Carpathian Mountains of Ukraine. Very interesting!
SO, without further ado:
May your crops be adundant, may your fortunes increase, and may your household always be bountiful and joyous in this new year!

We are grateful for the great turnout at our fund raiser on Friday, November 18. With the help of fans like you we have traveled a good distance toward achieving our goal of getting into the studio this winter. Your support & generosity is highly appreciated & lifts our spirits to new heights!
However, we still have a way to go! For those who could not attend but would like to contribute and help us raise the remaining funds, look for our Kickstarter page in the coming days. (We are waiting forfinal approval of our Kickstarter page by the website's administration; for now, have a look around at Kickstarter. It's full of many exciting projects!)
Again. . . Thank You! Щиро вам дякуємо!!
